The Liberty Choirs have had an incredibly busy 2018-2019 season! Since we came back from winter break, the last part of the year flew by so quickly that we've hardly had time to post. All of the Liberty Choir students performed at our home Solo & Ensemble festival at the end of March for our guest adjudicators, Mrs. Catherine Lyon and Mr. Chris Marple.
Liberty Storm competed at four festivals across the state of Iowa throughout January and February, and made finals at every competition for the first time in school history. They also performed at two home concerts during that same time frame wrapping up their competitive show choir season with a performance at the Spring SHOWcase along with the Liberty Jazz Choirs and solo performances from our spring musical Legally Blonde.
The Liberty Jazz Choirs had a very busy season performing at three festivals with Voltage taking home a Grand Championship trophy from the Solon Vocal Jazz Festival and qualified for the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships. Spark, Amplify, and Voltage also performed on the Liberty Jazz Night concert in collaboration with the Liberty Jazz Band under the direction of Mr. Ryan Arp and the String Theory ensemble under the direction of Mrs. Annie Savage. At the Iowa Vocal Jazz Championships, Voltage placed third in Class 4A behind 2nd Place West Des Moines Valley Vocalease and 1st Place Cedar Rapids Washington Slice of Jazz, and our very own Kailey Mackin took home the prestigious Best Soloist award. This marks the second year in a row that Voltage has placed in the top 3 and had a soloist win one of the best solo awards (Katey Halverson, 2018; Kailey Mackin, 2019)
Our curricular choirs finished the year strong at IHSMA Large Group Contest with Liberty Singers, Liberty Singers Treble, and receiving straight Division I-Superior ratings and Bella Voce and Treble Clef Choir receiving Division II-Excellent ratings! Our end of the year concert was on May 13th, and we celebrated our first graduating class of Liberty choir students. Liberty Singers performed at graduation on May 25th officially capping off the 2018-2019 concert season.
We are so proud of everything that the Liberty Choir students have accomplished this year, and we can't wait to see where they will go in the future!
CONGRATULATIONS, LIBERTY CHOIRS!
